Packraft Safety & Rescue

Safety first on whitewater

Take your next step towards self-supported packraft trips in Belgian Winter Wonderland.

Friday 21 february 2025

This course is organised prior to the Benelux Packraft Meetup.

Wilder water in Belgium is mostly available in winter when the rain fills the river valleys. Fresh rain brings whitewater opportunities in the south of Belgium, but the environment becomes challenging. This course aims to prepare you for winter packrafting in Belgium.

You can join the Benelux Packraft Meetup in a more selfsupporting way after this course.

We focus during this course on different aspects of whitewater packrafting:

  • Safety first: basic techniques for rescue and self-rescue for packrafters
  • Paddle technique: stay away from the rocks and trees, eddy in/out, forward momentum
  • What do you need for winter packrafting
  • Trip planning in Belgium
  • Gaining confidence and learning under supervision

Attention: The exact location of this course will depend on the water levels. If the waterlevel is not sufficient, we will go to the training course at Mava near Liège.

DRYSUIT

You will stay dry and warm in a DRYSUIT. Cold environments are no longer a challenge! Check sizes here and include the right drysuit in your reservation.
